10 Places to Visit in Bolivia
Bolivia is a big country and has many places to explore. Our Brazil's neighbors are very welcoming and there is no shortage of places to go.
Taking advantage of the fact that it is a country where the Brazilian real is worth more, it's worth including it in your travel list. So paper, pen and Google Maps in hand, let's get started.
1 – Santa Cruz de La Sierra (Bolívia)
The city is home to one of the most famous squares in the country, Plaza 24 de Setembro. The square is huge and we had a lot of fun taking some pictures and seeing the people around.
An extra tip is to explore the street next to the square, where there are several museums, in particular the Municipal House of La Cultura Raúl Otero Reiche. Where it is really worth knowing, in addition to the super valid restaurants to eat typical Bolivian dishes.
2 – Train Cemetery – Uyuni
Another very interesting place to visit is the Train Cemetery, where it was a meeting point for trains from both the south and the north.
And as the machines got old, the trains were changed and those that were no longer used were abandoned in this region. Thus becoming known as the Cemetery of Trains.
3 – Salt Desert (Salar de Uyuni)
The largest salt desert in the world is located in Uyuni, Bolivia. There, in addition to the white immensity, there are 3 hotels, the square of flags and the famous Dakar, the biggest race of cars and motorcycles in a long way.
The best time to take those instagrammable photos with reflection, like ours below, is from November to March. In addition to the photos, I recommend seeing the beautiful sunset in this incredible place.
4 – Chulluncani Lagoon
Laguna is a full plate for those who love natural landscapes, crystal clear waters and flamingos to complete the wonderful view. It's a must see point.
It is located at an altitude of 4,035m above sea level, it is surrounded by mountains and very cold wind, but despite that, it is well worth the visit.
5 – Siloli Desert – Stone Tree
The desert is located in the Eduardo Avaroa Andean Fauna National Reserve. And it is at an altitude of approximately 5,000 meters of altitude. Therefore, it is not recommended for those who have respiratory problems.
The formation of the stone tree is quite interesting, it has this shape due to the very strong wind in this region of the desert. Tourists can feel free to take pictures and walk around.

6 – Laguna Colorada
Another charming place to visit is Laguna Colorada. Also located in the same National Reserve as the Siloli Desert, the place has a lot to offer. Usually, in addition to tourists, it is quite attracted to flamingos.
The lake contains islands of borax, which gives this contrast with the red color of its waters. Where this color is given by reddish sediments and pigmentation of some algae.
7 – Sol de Manana Geyser
This geyser, in the Eduardo Avaroa Andean Fauna National Reserve, is the highest in the world and is at an altitude of 4850 to 4910 meters above the sea.
There are several craters with many volcanic activities, where you can walk and see the bubbles, in addition to the strong smell that exudes. But be careful, as there are not many signs of where to step, walk carefully so as not to get hurt.
8 – La Paz – Capital of Bolivia
La Paz like every big city is very busy and with very busy traffic. In addition to the troubled traffic, what draws the most attention are its very typical Bolivian buses.
Another main attraction of the city are the modern cable cars that were implemented very recently, in 2014 and entered the Guinness Book. As well as being one of the longest lines in the world, with 30km and also the highest, from 3600 to 4000 meters of altitude.
Extra tip: you take the cable car to the south zone of La Paz, which in addition to exploring the commercial avenues, you will also have a broader view of the city.
9 – Copacabana
Yes folks, besides Brazil there is a Copacabana in Bolivia too, and it borders the largest lake in the world, Titicaca. According to locals, the island is protected by the sun god and the moon god, where the sun god represents the man, and the moon god, the woman.
The place offers many nice bars and restaurants with incredible views of Lake Titicaca. In addition to exploring the mountain next door, which is super inviting for trails, I highly recommend getting to know the city center.
10 – Isla del Sol
The island is known as the beginning of the Empire of the Incas, and is one of the holiest islands in South America. Also, it is located on Lake Titicaca and is only 1 hour by boat from Copacabana.
The place often receives a lot of tourists, and it's no wonder: there are many Inca ruins to explore, ancient stories to hear. Plus the wonderful view of Lake Titicaca to explore.
