O mais importante é entender que para viajar o mundo gastando pouco, é preciso priorizar a viagem ao em vez do conforto. Por exemplo, quando viajamos de férias, estamos priorizando o conforto e por isso, os gastos são muito mais elevados.  

Mas em uma viagem ao redor do mundo, é necessário que você tenha em mente a questão da economia, além disso, será preciso sair da sua zona de conforto e estar aberto a novas culturas o tempo todo.

Outra alternativa, se você não quiser fazer o couchsurfing ou não encontrar uma casa rápido, é ficar sempre em hostels, uma vez que eles são muito mais baratos que os hotéis comuns e em alguns casos, você consegue trocar hospedagem por algum tipo de trabalho.

Outra opção, bastante interessante também, de economizar na sua viagem é fazendo trabalhos voluntários.

Geralmente, comer em restaurantes não é a melhor das opções. A melhor alternativa é sem dúvidas fazer a própria comida. 

Se você ficar em um Hostel, por exemplo, pode aproveitar para usar a cozinha. Em outras palavras, é muito mais econômico comprar os ingredientes nos mercados e cozinhar, do que comprar em restaurantes ou barzinhos.

Oh, and avoid the expensive markets, with tourist prices, find out what markets the locals go to, I guarantee you will save even more.
