If this is your first plane trip, it's normal to feel lost in the airport or even being insecure, this is often even common among those who are planning their first trip. 

With that in mind, I decided to write this guide to help you to board at the airport. I will explain the main important points for you to be able to board in a calm and worry-free way. 

It is important to note that when it comes to traveling by plane, it is necessary to pay attention to several details, it will be necessary to check-in, keep an eye on the rules of the airlines, and always arrive in advance. 

 

 

Here's everything you need to know to get by at the airport, even if this is your first trip: 

 

What is Check in?

Check in is a mandatory measure that takes place on any flight you are going to take in your life, whether national or international.

It is basically a very simple procedure, but super important. In other words, it will contain your reservation number, in addition to requesting your documents so that the boarding pass can be issued. 

Therefore, without this card you cannot board.

 If you buy your tickets online, be aware that the email you receive from the airline is not your boarding pass, but only confirmation of your purchase. So always check your inbox, spam, they usually let you know when the check in is open.

Remember, free check-in always opens 48 hours before your flight time.

 

 

Whenever possible, prefer to do your check-in online, as this can offer you many advantages, as it will allow you to confirm your details and that of your flight. 

So, by checking in in advance, you can choose the best seats, and if you prefer to stay in one next to the window, it will be much easier to get. But know, most of the time, the choice of seat is an extra paid resource, but the earlier you check in, the easier it will be to get a well located seat.

After checking in, you will receive your boarding pass, which you can print or not and present it at the airport.

Como fazer o check in online?

To check in online is very simple: you just need to go to the airline's website and identify the area with the name Check-in. In this sense, it is very common and is very visible being easy to find. 

After that is just pay attention: 

1. You will be asked for information such as: flight reservation code, personal data, city from which you will depart and to which destination you are going; 
2. Request for your phone number and email address;
3. Upon completion, your boarding pass will be sent by email or can be downloaded via the airline's own website or app. 

 

Just be careful and make sure, if the airport or airline requests the passenger to go to the airport counter for the card to be printed, or in some cases to check the visa.

Also, you have to get ahead, each airline has its own rules, but what usually happens is that check-in must be done up to 48 hours before the flight. 

 

 

Arrive early

To avoid the risk of missing your flight and avoid possible stress, it is important to always be on time. For example, the flight time refers to the moment when the plane will leave the ground for the destination.

Therefore, there's no way you can consider arriving at that moment, since that's when you should already be making a presence.  

In other words, you need to arrive at the airport hours before your trip begins. Bear in mind that the boarding time must be between 45 to 30 minutes before the flight time. 

Usually for international travel you need to be there 2 hours before departure at the check-in desk. Assim sendo, o despacho da bagagem se dá início 3 horas antes do voo (internacional ou nacional).

But, if you travel only with the handbag, this will not be necessary. However, if you have followed the above procedure and checked in online, and you have your boarding pass in hand or even have it on your cell phone, you can go straight to the metal detector.

Items such as cell phones, notebooks, tablets, among other technological items, must be removed from the bag to pass through security.

If you already have your boarding pass in hand, just consult the airport panel, which is very similar to the one in the photo above and in the first photo of this post. 

If you have difficulty, you can also ask some of the attendants. Remember to always look for someone in airport uniform if you need to ask for directions.

 

 

 

Some English words to consider: Gate is Portão, Flight is Voo and Seat is Assento. If the boarding pass does not include the boarding gate, simply check the time and flight number on the boarding pass and check the time screen.

Boarding Room

When you are in the departure lounge, carry your original boarding pass and passport with you. You will need to present it in the room and also when you go to the aircraft. 

Remember: travel with a passport valid for at least 6 months.

You arrive at the departure lounge, after going through the metal detector, always keep an eye on the panels to verify that your flight is on time, in addition to checking other information such as the flight number or the boarding gate.

On international flights things can be a little different. 

• You will not always be able to check-in online, as not all airlines will offer this possibility;
• The documents for boarding can be many, depending on your destination. And if you need a passport or visa, sometimes they must be presented at the time of check-in at the airport, so be aware. 
• After arriving at the departure lounge, and leaving the X-ray, you will go to immigration, there they will check your documents, including your visa and your passport, leave these documents within easy reach.
